During the Covid19 pandemic we are having to adapt to a new way of working. What is apparent is that there is a distinct split between law firms: those who have continued to recruit and those who have put recruitment ‘on hold’. We have experienced a candidate shortage in most disciplines of law for some time, however that is now changing with new experienced candidates coming in numbers and seeking new opportunities. It’s your responsibility as decision makers, recruitment and HR specialists to ensure your firms don’t miss the opportunity to secure the best candidates.
As previously mentioned, recruitment has not stopped for many law firms as they seek to prepare and build ready for post Covid19. It won’t be long – ARE YOU PREPARED? If you are in the ‘on hold’ group, I URGE you to review this decision: you are missing the opportunity to access this new pool of candidates.
I know we are all adapting to use modern technology in our day to day service for clients, switching from face to face meetings to video conferencing. This can and should also be embraced for the recruitment process, many interviews have been successfully held using these formats by other industries for many years prior to Covid19. Extremely good outcomes can be achieved by the video interview, and while there has to be an element of acceptance from both interviewer and interviewee, success rates are excellent.
Some benefits of video conferencing for recruiters include: time saving, recording of interview (so you can reference back), shared screen as well as multiple interviewers in different locations.
It’s an excellent time to recruit as we begin to see the loosening of restrictions. We may never see normal as we know it but we will see our businesses adapting and growing, those that act proactively now will be ready and ahead of the pack.
